Item Description

More than 250 years of Fine Swiss Watch making expertise can be found within the foundation of every Gevril timepiece. Jacques Gevril was a most sought after master of horologic complication at a time when Swiss Watchmaking history had just begun to be written. He was also a peer to some of the most famous watchmakers of all time including; his good friends, the world renowned Daniel Jean Richard and Pierre Jaquet-Droz. Born in La Chaux-de-Fonds in the Le Locle Valley, Jacques Gevril began his career in the mid-1700’s. Gevril began as a restorer of timepieces in his home town of La Chaux-de Fonds where he invented numerous watch and clock movements. As he rode to success many horologic achievements would be attributed to his name and in 1744 he changed the face of watchmaking forever by creating the repetition dial. In perhaps his most notable achievement, Gevril became the first exporter of Swiss timepieces when he answered a call by Spain in the year 1758, to produce a timepiece for his majesty, the king.
